Field Notes

Description:

The flower of this nasturtium is a sunny butter yellow with spiky, neon orange markings spreading down the petals from the throat.

Doesn't quite vine, more like it uses vertical surfaces to push itself towards the sun.

Seeds grow in groups of three after the flowers fall. They're almost jelly bean shaped and grow larger as they mature, then shrink as they dry. Dry seed looks like little stones or tiny brown brains.

Flowers, leaves, and seeds (if NOT dry/mature) are edible with a peppery flavor like a cross between spinach and cucumber.

Habitat:

Garden

Notes:

This in my own garden. Two years or so ago I had two nasturtiums, one with lovely butter yellow flowers and one with neon orange. Bees and other pollinators wandered between the two and crossed them for me. Now, among my self-seeded nasturtiums that have come up, I have this multi color beauty.
