Field Notes

Description:

Small Black and rufous flycatcher; now classified in Muscicapidae (Old World Flycatchers) family. The adult males sport black cape and very black chest and face; with a grey crown and wing covers - wings also sport a white panel. The rump and the tail rufous red.
Now, the subspecies seen in Georgia is somewhat different from the one we see around Geneva. The main difference is that rufous belly; as their european equivalents would have the belly entirely grey. Pics 4 and 5, I'm not sure if that is a female or a male coming to maturity.

Habitat:

Seen in mountainous region north of Tbilisi, and very close to Russian border. Coniferous forests and cold-climate grasslands in valleys on some 2000 m of altitude, on edges of urban habitations.

Notes:

I'm a bit confused about the subspecies present here in Caucasus and close by in Turkey and Asia, so I left that unresolved.
