Description:
Large flush of Pleurotus on a dead oak tree. I'm thinking these are Pleurotus pulmonarius or Pleurotus ostreatus var. florida. They are a cream to white shade with gills beneath. They smell slightly of anise. I'm leaning towards the latter species. Be sure to watch the video for the full scope of how big of a flush this was!
We had a great weekend exploring our land. There were tons of mushrooms EVERYWHERE after Hurricane Irma came through, but this was one of my favorite finds! Oyster mushrooms galore!
Habitat:
Near the top of a ridge in a (mostly shaded) dense hardwood forest. Growing on an large, dead oak tree.
Notes:
For those that are curious, these were delicious.
