Field Notes

Description:

Drought hardy annual native to California.

The leaves are thin and branched. Someone visiting my yard looked saw some seedlings and asked if they were parsely.

Stems and leaves are a green that becomes more greyish as a sign of lack of water stress (grey coloring is a drought adaptation in many plants).

Flowers are a golden orange in color and have four petals. Center of the flower looks like a spiky ball of stamens in the same orange as the petals.

Flowers close at night and open in the day.

Habitat:

Garden

Notes:

These self-seeded from plants I grew from seed last year. The original seed was purchased at a grocery store.
