Night blooming cerus
Epiphyllum strictum
33.8414, -83.7966
Field Notes
Description:
Green stems with long, strap-like leaves that grow either out of the stems or straight out of the edges of other leaves. Plant is succulent-like in that leaves are slightly thick and have a new leather feel to them. Plant grows some long stems with roots coming out, so it appears to "run".
Habitat:
It's a house plant that I have had for ten years, or so. Indoors by window for six months of the year and outside, under woodland canopy for the other six, so it does very well in relatively low light. Has bloomed only the last two years.
Notes:
Sorry about adding this non-wild plant, but would love to know what this plant is. I was given a single leaf which I stuck in moist soil in a pot. It grew roots and then started growing both stems and new leaves right out of the original leaf. It's a cool plant. Please ID if you know what this is.
