Field Notes

Description:

Smaller than a herring gull. Black cap above the eye and possibly a small crest; very large orange beak. It was diving for fish in the harbour. Is it some kind of tern?

Habitat:

Seen in the US Virgin Islands.

Notes:

I had to use my digital zoom so the picture is a bit grainy but you can still see its markings clearly.

I think you're right! My West Indies bird book says that caspian terns can be found there but are rare so I didn't even look it up.
its definitely a tern , I believe its a caspian tern
