This is a carpenter bee (see my above ID). The scopa, or pollen-collecting area, on the back leg is distinctly Xylocopa rather than Bombus. Beautiful photo.
iOS this a borer bee? Was it eating the wood?
Looks like a bumble bee. Can we get a better photo or a descrpition of the body?
