Description:

Large, stocky hoverfly. Similar in size and shape to a bee but totally harmless.

Habitat:

Flower meadows and gardens.

Notes:

Also know as drone flies. They feed on pollen and nectar. Larvae are aquatic and are also known as rat-tailed maggots.
