Field Notes

Description:

This interesting spring ephemeral plant is about one foot tall and has graceful drooping, yellow flowers, often hidden by sepals and leaves. The leaves appear to be pierced through by the flower stalk.

Habitat:

Moist rich eastern deciduous forest. I often find them on steep hillsides. It ranges across eastern US and Canada.
