I found one of these the other day and Gordon Dietzman helped to identify it. This beetle sure is difficult to photograph with all of its frantic running around. The movement reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0NFrA-Nx4Y
It's some kind of tiger beetle. Usually the patterns on their elytra make identification easier, but it's tough to make out the patterns on this one. In the second picture you can see some of the white dots near the posterior end of its abdomen, so that's a start.
