Notes:

The first 2 pictures were on my deck this morning. The 3rd was on my neighbor's peonies this afternoon. Same type of caterpillar. Not sure what kind, though.

They leave a pheremone trail to the best food sources so that their tent-mates are guaranteed a good meal.
Thank you David. I did get a picture of the "tent" in my weeping cherry tree but it won't let me add the photo. It says loaded 100% but then doesn't show up :(
Great shot. That's an Eastern tent caterpillar. They leave their tents around that size and look for places to pupate. Amazing animals.
