Pacific madrone

The tree was about 4 inches in diameter and about twenty ft tall. The bark is orange to red to brown and peels away in thin sheets. The Pacific madrone is an evergreen with oval waxy leaves and orange to orange-red fruit. In the spring the tree has white urn-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds and pollinators. The fruit ripens in the fall and persists into winter providing birds with food.
