Yeah sorry guys! My fault. I should have googled the correct scientific name.
You're right. I didn't know it was such a widely used common name.
The red flowers are coming from the aloe. Lots of plants, including the aloe in the picture, are called red-hot pokers; that's why scientific names are so helpful!
Red hot poker refers to Kniphofia uvaria, not a species of aloe. To me it's kind of unclear if the red flowers are actually coming from the Aloe itself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_hot_poker
Yes, the plant is called red-hot poker (aloe) and i think the bird is a Northern Mockingbird. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_mockingbird
