Description:

Beautiful Bluish coloration. Extremely feisty and territorial. A bunch of jays together are successful in driving my neighbor's cat away!!

Habitat:

Foothills and vicinity of Mt Diablo.

I believe you have the Western Scrub-Jay, Aphelocoma californica, in the photo (which matches your location). Great shots of a beautiful bird. I've seen one once, at a distance, and nearly fell into a canyon trying to get a better look at it.
