Field Notes

Description:

Sometimes known as the sea hawk or fish eagle, it is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey. It is a large raptor, reaching 60 centimeters (24 in) in length with a 2 m wingspan. It is brown on the upper parts and predominantly grayish on the head and underparts, with a black eye patch and wings. This guy had a nest somewhere nearby. Always saw him and his mate flying around. I believe they are also protected here in FL.
