Description:

this green caterpillar with red fangs n helmet on were found feeding on my orange plant...pls help ID!

True Papilio polytes is somewhat similar, yet easily separable upon close comparison – http://ifoundbutterflies.org/3-lepidoptera/papilio-polytes. FYI, the two caterpillar photos in the above Wikipedia link are both misidentified, being instead P. demoleus ("Different stage instars") and probably P. protenor ("Later instar").
Yes, Claire I know all about the Orange Dog, but we are always thrilled to see one that is brought in to Extension. I would not be thrilled to see this one come in. It does not look like bird droppings, nor sound ineffective in chewing.
Alice, we do have a Papilio that eats our Orange leaves, Papilio cresphontes, the Giant Swallowtail. The citrus growers call it the Orange Dog...but they have stopped spraying for it as it does minimal damage unless you have a very young tree.
That's a Papilio (Swallowtail) for sure. Will see if I can come up with an ID.
I am really glad we have nothing like this attacking our Orange trees. Will be interested in it being identified.
