Species ID Suggestions

Zebra Jumping Spider

Salticus scenicus

Comments (1)

There have been a number of jumping spiders posted lately. They are the most diverse of the spider families (Salticidae) with over 4000 species worldwide. This particular spider resembles a local (Minnesota, USA) spider referred to as a "Zebra jumping spider" but this one may very well be a different species. For more information you may want to check out http://www.arkive.org/zebra-spider/salticus-scenicus/#text=All Nice photo as these guys are very active. I've had these fearless little spiders leap onto my lens when trying to photograph them. Of all the spider groups, these guys seem to have the most personality. They will twist their bodies to watch you (their eyes are fixed so they can't just follow you with their eyes) as move around them so they can get a good view. Very, very cool sighting! I hope you can nail down the ID better because I'd be very curious if this species is distributed throughout the northern hemisphere.
