Field Notes

Description:

A herd of pronghorn E of Eagle Lake on native grass and sage. The only surviving member of the family Antilocapridae.[5] During the Pleistocene period, 12 antilocaprid species existed in North America, 5 of which still existed when man came to N America. Not a true antelope, but a product of niche evolution. This is the same herd I photographed with much better results 3 years ago on a trip to reno. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/37828143

Notes:

We drove out of our way in hopes of spotting these guys on the way home and got a distant glimpse of them. This meant that we saw two more groups once we were back over the state line in Oregon
