Field Notes

Description:

A terrestrial species, adults usually grow to total length 75–125 cm.
The color pattern is highly variable, including a ground color that may be olive, brown, tan, gray, yellow, or (rarely) rusty. The body markings are highly variable, as is the degree of contrast: in some specimens the pattern is very well defined, while in others it may be virtually absent.

Habitat:

rainforest

Notes:

This Fer de Lance was spotted just beside a trail during a nightwalk. It was very fearless. It was eyeing us and was ready to strike if we came any closer. My guide tried to scare it by throwing a branch near it, but it didn't budge. My guide wanted to kill it but I wouldn't let him. He said if local people see this snake, they kill it.
