Maxima Clam
Tridacna maxima
-5.43333, 123.767
Field Notes
Description:
Also called the "Small Giant Clam" because it looks similar to the true Giant Clam, but doesn't grow nearly as big. Most of the clam is embedded into the rock of the reef, leaving only the mantle visible. The mantle can be all sorts of colours because symbiotic algae live inside the tissue.
Habitat:
Shallows of coral reefs, no deeper than 20m.
