Description:

The people are living from these algaes. They export them to china to make food. Sadly I dont know the exact name. They told me that the name is "aga aga"

Hi Leaena! There are various types of algae cultivated around Zanzibar. I am not sure which ones these are. Agar-agar is the name of the gelifying substance made from them. I visited the island last year and just loved it!
Could it have been agar agar? It accumulates in agarophyte algae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agar). Vegetarians use the powder as a gelatin substitute.
