Definitely a skink, great spot! Lovely photograph, lots of detail on those scales!
Not for me. You'd have to have shots of the underside of the tail and a close up of its head in profile to really do it right. Not a big deal though. If you'd like you can list the common name as "Skink" and the scientific name as "Eumeces sp"
I added a 2nd photo but its blurry does that help ID him?
Not a salamander (although that's a pretty common misconception). It's actually a lizard. Salamanders do not have scales
I think it was a salamander it was tiny and fast. I would have never spotted him if I wasn't picking up something off the grass. It was tanning in our backyard. :)
Well, it's one of the larger skinks (Genus Eumeces or Plestiodon depending on who you ask). You have a choice of three species. Without seeing the underside of the tail and being able to clearly count labial scales I'd have a tough time making a species ID. Great photo though
