In Spain, the cork is in the south-west of the peninsula (near Portugal). I wish to continue the exploitation of cork, oaks are protected accordingly. I only buy bottles of wine with cork. Video: Best from the minute 3 ' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au3xQbBjRgE
I kept thinking about how wine corks are moving away from cork to plastic (or whatever the material is). Obviously wine bottle stoppers are not the only thing cork is used for!
In Portugal it is a huge business. There are places where you can buy virtually anything (except food perhaps) made entirely of cork, including clothes!
You can watch the process of extracting the cork: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/5235245 Regards.
Nice picture...I've always wanted to see a Cork Oak. Is the bark still harvested?
