Yes, we used to have an orange canary and had to feed it special food to keep its colour. Pigeon owners must do the same as some of their birds are very colourful. I photographed one today in a park near Lliria, might post it later, it looks like this one almost.
It almost looks like it was painted!! Feathers develop colors according to the diet of birds. The colors Depend on the kind of foods they ate when they were very young. this is true for all birds in general. color of feathers can change with the diet.
