Garysocial you mean following..? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxalis_pes-caprae
A yellow wood sorrel, an Oxalis species. And they are edible.
Apple Clover is what we call it. It is one if my favorite edible plants from childhood onward. The yellow bloom is pretty in spring and the green heart-shaped leaves (visible in photo) taste like sweet and sour green apples. When I taught 8th grade earth science this was one if the plants we gathered from campus...to eat. Sweet spring plant and gets more bitter as summer moves on. (east coast in my life but I have seen and eaten in Arizona lawns too. Lawn seed likely spreads it in US. Go eat some! :)
