It's not an unusual behavior. I've flushed baskettail dragonflies out of the grass while walking and have had common green darner dragonflies pick them off. Our (Minnesota, USA) massive dragonhunter dragonflies get their name as they certainly prey on other dragonflies, often nearly their own size and even have been reported picking off hummingbirds. Nice photo!
That is the best picture of a dragon fly I've ever seen. To answer your question, dragonflies are carnivorous and will others of the same species when ever they have the chance.
