This impressive spider is definitely a Nephilia. They are called Golden orb spiders because the web is made of golden colored silk. I think there is only one that occurs in southern Victoria so its ID is fairly simple. http://museumvictoria.com.au/about/mv-blog/?tag=nephila%20edulis
