Description:
A St Andrew's Cross Spider female hanging head down with its legs pairs together, probably Argiope aetherea.
Up to 15mm in body length, flat oval shaped abdomen with transverse white, yellow and reddish-brown stripes, thorax and head are brownish-silver, legs are brown in colour, with yellow bands at the middle.
Adult males are much smaller than females and are brown in colour and with no pattern on the abdomen.
Habitat:
Spotted during a day walk at KL Forest Eco Park, Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia, an urban park located at the middle of the city.
These spiders are distributed throughout the world. Most countries in tropical or temperate climates host one or more species that are similar in appearance.
Notes:
The etymology of the name is from a Greek name meaning "silver-faced."
