Field Notes

Description:

very large lobed leaves, tall sturdy stem, white umbel of small flowers that becomes very large

Habitat:

on the edge of pine & sitka spruce forest, at the midpoint of a sea cliff

Notes:

The local Natives enjoyed eating the peeled stems (harvested before the plant fully flowered) before logging and development took away a lot of its native habitat. It seems to prefer roadsides (which often run with water) and edges of woods rather than open fields.
