Replendent Quetzal

My all time favorite bird :) Great photo!!! When I was in Cosat Rica, the flash on my camera broke, so none of my quetzal photos came out. We were in the Monteverde cloud forest. I sat for hours on the trails watching the male bring food and nesting supplies to the nesting female. :)

This is an amazing bird and with so many ancient stories attached. I have been wanting to see one most of my life but have never had the chance.

Aztecs used to get its feathers to make their "Penachos (Spanish)" or "quetzalapanecáyotl (Nahuatl)" which were worn by Aztec emperors The quetzalapanecáyotl is a featherwork crown made from Quetzal feathers mounted on a base of gold and studded with precious stones, the most known quetzalapanecayotl is from Moctezuma and It is actually exhibited in the Museum of Ethnology, Vienna.
