My all time favorite bird :) Great photo!!! When I was in Cosat Rica, the flash on my camera broke, so none of my quetzal photos came out. We were in the Monteverde cloud forest. I sat for hours on the trails watching the male bring food and nesting supplies to the nesting female. :)
And it is also considered the most mystic bird in Mexico and central America . Aztecs used to get its feathers to make their "Penachos (Spanish)" or "quetzalapanecáyotl (Nahuatl)" which were worn by Aztec emperors The quetzalapanecáyotl is a featherwork crown made from Quetzal feathers mounted on a base of gold and studded with precious stones, the most known quetzalapanecayotl is from Moctezuma and It is actually exhibited in the Museum of Ethnology, Vienna.
