Field Notes

Description:

Dark brown or almost black upperparts. Head is black and has a crest which is also black. Crest is only raised momentarily and that too, not very often. It has brown/black breast. Red vent.

Habitat:

Quite common even in urban araes. This photo was taken on my rooftop terrace where the parent birds come for breakfast (biscuit crumbs) everyday. These days they are bringing baby along.

Notes:

They prefer soggy, left-out-in -the -air biscuit crumbs. If the biscuit bits are too hard they go for a drink of water immediately afterwards...may be it scratches their throats.
Chick was quite capable of feeding itself, hopped about picking up crumbs. But the moment the parent bird approached, it became one big gaping mouth.
