Field Notes

Description:

This dusty blue beetle was about 13 mm long. The dorso-ventrally flattened body had a flange around both the thorax and elytra.

Habitat:

Spotted under bright lights in a suburban garden. <br>

Notes:

Pie-dish beetle have fused elytra. Pterohelaeus are said to have a bluish colouring as opposed to Helae sp which are mostly black. They live under wood and leaf debris and feed on decaying material. <br>
They can sometimes damage plants by biting stems close to the ground causing the plant to wither. <br>
