Description:
Flowers are more purple and pink than red. Deciduous tree native to eastern North America, from Ontario to Florida. State tree of Oklahoma. Common.
Habitat:
Common in mixed forests and hedgerows.
Notes:
"In some parts of southern Appalachia, green twigs from the Eastern redbud are used as seasoning for wild game such as venison and opossum. Because of this, in these mountain areas the Eastern redbud is sometimes known as the spicewood tree." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cercis_canadensis
