Description:

Small Scarlet Leaf Beetle with black legs and a black spot at the center of the junction between the pronotum and the elytra, 4mm in length. The hind femora are thickened for jumping and it jumped almost 10 cm! I found it on a species of red-leaved (underside) Impatiens. It matched the plant color almost perfectly (last 2 pictures). Family Chrysomelidae.

Habitat:

Semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
