Hogna lenta
41.478, -90.1533
Field Notes
Description:
A stout wolf spider with brown and black markings on its head. Legs are thick and stout in the front, and gradually get thinner for each pair going toward the back end. Young travel on its back interwoven in a tightly meshed group.
Habitat:
Found under bark of a dead tree at the local waste burn site. Hogna are frequently found in all of our woodland type areas.
Notes:
I'm just amazed at how these babies can stay on the back like that! As amazing as it is, it still creeps me out a bit:)
