Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized moth, roughly about 4-5cm in length, of earthy colours above, making it almost perfectly camouflaged against the bark of carob tree. In flight, rose-pink underwings are well visible.

Habitat:

Seen during the night-time, on the bark of a male carob tree in our garden. Located at outskirts of Dubrovnik, on lower slopes of Srdj mountain, the garden is terraced and covered in Mediterranean fruit trees and spontaneous vegetation. In spring, these terraces are overgrown in beautiful dense carpet of spontaneous Mediterranean herbs and melliferous flowers.
