Field Notes

Description:

Hindwings yellow with broad, black band near yellow outer margin.
Forewings variably brown, reddish brown, or nearly black, with dark round and kidney shaped spots.

Wingspan 45 to 65 mm

Habitat:

Range: This strong-flying migratory species was first recoreded in Nova Scotia in 1979 and is spreading rapidly in eastern North America. Adults are seen in many habitats from spring to summer.
