Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful little orchid-like blooms on this low-growing plant (less than one foot). The flowers are approximately 1 cm in width, and just a little longer in length. The colors are mostly pink with the outer edge being the darkest pink and then fading to a lighter pink as it gets closer to the center of the flower. There is a section that extends from the center of the flower that is purple in color. On a few plants there is a separate flower that is yellow and it grows from the same stem. Most flowers, however, are singular.

Habitat:

This plant was growing along a mowed roadside. It was in a partially shaded area.

I agree, Marta. I think this is one of the most beautiful flowers I have ever photographed!
looks like Fabaceae. Subfamília Faboideae. I do not know the species. maybe a type of bean. Beans belong to the tribe Phaseoleae. :)
Whatever it is it's beautiful! Great spotting Stephanie. Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you, Dominique! I wish I could figure out what it is!
