Field Notes

Description:

Adults are soft-bodied, long-legged beetles with the head fully exposed and constricted to form an unusually narrow neck.

Habitat:

Widely distributed in the central and/or eastern U.S. This beetle was spotted in Elton, Pennsylvania.

Notes:

Larvae of most genera enter the nests of wild bees, where they consume both immature bees and the provisions of one or more cells.
