Field Notes

Description:

Family: Saturnidae also known as the Giant silk moth family
Forewings have blue cresent set in black eyespot near tip.
Wings have white reddish, and tan bands; large crescents ringed in black.
Wingspan 11-15cm

Habitat:

Range: Eastern Alberta south to eastern Texas and east to Prince Edward Island and central Florida.

Cecropia moths live in or near hardwood forests.
