Field Notes

Description:

A non-venomous constrictor that is common in prairie areas. First line of defense is to flee, second is the rapid vibration of the tail on the ground as a warning, and finally it will strike. These snakes are quite docile when they aren't feeling threatened.

Habitat:

Prairie restoration area

Notes:

This snake was basking on the trail and was quite agitated that I was there. Several strikes, none connected:)

Thanks again, Neil for the kind words. I love these guys because their bark (or hiss) is much worse than the bite.
