Field Notes

Description:

Coleoptera; Scarabaeidae; Onthophagus; Onthophagus sp. This was the first, and only, time I have come across a Dung Beetle. I think it is a member of the Onthophagus because of the rather globular shape and the spurs on the legs rather like the example shown on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onthophagus

Habitat:

Spotted on a patch of land, formerly part of a rice field, but no longer planted because of too much shade from a group of mango trees. The beetle was sitting on unidentified foliage amongst various wild grasses.

Notes:

Sorry, I only got one picture and it scrambled off the edge of the leaf and disappeared into the undergrowth.
