Field Notes

Description:

1/4" flea beetle. Red head, with black eyes. The thorax is white and red with two black spots. The wing elytra is black, white, and red striped. Underside is all red. Muscular flea beetle hind legs for jumping long distances.

Habitat:

Prairie restoration area.

Yes, they are Marta! I was quite surprised to see these. I'm not used to that kind of color in Illinois!
