Description:

Heliconius charithonia, the zebra longwing or zebra heliconian, is a species of butterfly belonging to the subfamily Heliconiinae, of the family Nymphalidae. Around 1:00 p.m. in the early afternoon, I looked out of the right front window, and I saw a zebra longwing butterfly, flying from purple flower to purple flower, feeding on the nectar from these purple flowers.

Habitat:

This species frequents tropical hammocks, moist forests, edges, or fields. The zebra longwing butterfly, lives in warm, damp, tropical areas. It is often found in hammocks and thickets.

Notes:

I spotted this zebra longwing butterfly, feeding on these purple flowers, at 1:00 p.m. in the early afternoon, in my front yard.
