Field Notes

Description:

One of the most beautiful insects I have ever seen. Iridescent wings that shone blue/teal at some angles and purple at others. The bottom of the wings were opaque lavender with black spots. Red legs. I would guess 6-8 cm

Habitat:

Suburban backyard

Notes:

It was not afraid of me at all. In fact, it landed on me at first.

I agree Machi. These things have the most amazing wings.
Thank you! I had no idea antlions could be this showy!
I thought the face looked a little like it, but its arms don't.
I thought lacewing too, but I could not find a photo of a similar looking one.
Lacewings? I love it's blue tone :-)
