Habitat:

The Purple Heron breeds in colonies in reed beds or trees close to large lakes or other extensive wetlands.

Notes:

The Purple Heron is on the red list in the Netherlands.
I was delighted to spot 7 of them at the same time, being out on a boat late at night. Unfortunately I wasn't able to should better pictures.
