Field Notes

Description:

Found perched upon a White Thorn Acacia. Remarkable coloration. Perhaps the "Green Eyed Robber Fly" or "Hanging Thief Robber Fly"? I noticed on several other photos of the robber flies the black markings on the abdomen are on the higher up on the dorsal but in this specimen the darker markings hang lower on the abdomen. So I remain uncertain as to which species of 'Diogmites' this specimen is.

Habitat:

Chihuahuan desert shrubland.

Notes:

Jame A McNair helped with identification :)

Perhaps Diogmites basalis. Diogmites discolor and Diogmites basalis are almost indistinguishable. Though I think its safe to say Diogmites sp. until I can tell for certain. Thanks for your help!
Oh thanks! I was just looking at the bugguide now. Yes, that looks much closer...
Check out Diogmites discolor. http://bugguide.net/node/view/70252 See what you think
Sorry I couldn't get exact ID. There are so many of them, but awesome shot.
