This is indeed the modesta sub-species of Great Egret. The dark bill, green-grey facial skin and nuptial plumes are of a breeding specimen. Non-breeding birds have yellow bill and facial skin. http://www.graemechapman.com.au/library/viewphotos.php?c=710 Korea is certainly within the range of this sub-species. A beautiful photo series, DeddyJUnChandra.
great egret and the great white egret, does these two actually a different species ? because in my book its written great egret (egretta alba) while looking at internet information great egret is ardea alba modesta while egretta alba is the great white egret.
Another fact i found that little egret has a black leg but yellow feet instead of all black on great egret. however, intermediate egret actually has the same type of transformation between summer and winter season.
Oh~ now i really getting confused whether its a great or intermediate egret. hahaha
from the book i have "A field guide to the birds of korea", the sample picture of the great egret and little egret is the colour between the eye and the bill. while little egret had a yellow colored, great egret had a greenish color. not to mention that little egret had two long plumes from its rear crown and none on great egret. i could be wrong too, i better find more information about it. thx for the information.
