Field Notes

Description:

The Grand Canyon rock squirrels have adapted to humans. This one has just stolen my hiking companion's trail mix. Meanwhile, another one raided my backpack and dragged away my trail mix bag.

Habitat:

Sand beach at the Colorado River basin.

Cool. I've never seen one of these. Although I've had many a squirrel raid my snack food. There was even the ground squirrel at Mount St. Helens that kept sliding down my nylon jacket (I was seated) before finally making it up to the top my shoulder, and my level with my muesli bar.
