Field Notes

Description:

Green waxy leaves. A tree that can grow 30 meters tall. Has small white blossoms and a black berry as fruit. The leaves when they fall on the ground prevent other plants from sprouting. It is an evergreen.

Habitat:

Open areas. Forests. Spread by birds eating the berries.

Notes:

The leaves are used in cooking, medicine and a variety of other uses including smokeless gunpowder.
